Sending an e-mail to the wrong person is never a pleasant experience, and can prove to be disastrous depending on the receiver. Fortunately, Outlook has a feature that can allow us to recall our emails provided certain conditions are met.

You can recall your Outlook Email if the following conditions are met-

  • The sender and receiver must use an Exchange Account to send and receive mail.
  • The mail should not have been read or opened.

If your email meets the following criteria, congratulations! You can now proceed to recall it!

Recalling Outlook Emails

1. Access the Outlook Sent folder and open the sent mail.

2. Locate the Move section on the Ribbon above and click on Actions.

How to Avoid Sending Emails To the Wrong Person?

Sending the wrong email to the wrong person can happen to anyone, what we can do about it is to set up a few precautionary measures to prevent it.

We can set up Outlook Rules to delay sending your email every time you try to send one. In case you reconsider your decision and prevent potential disasters.

1. Click on File.

2. Access the Info Tab and select the Rules and Alerts options.

3. Under Email Rules, select New Rule….

4. Select the Apply rule on any messages I send and click on Next.

5. Leave all the boxes unchecked and click on Next.

6. Click on the defer delivery by a number of minutes option.

7. set the timer to around 5 or 10 minutes, and click on OK.

8. Name the rule, be sure the rule box is ticked, and click on Finish.
