SD Card Says Full but Nothing on It

Although the SD card shows full, files are not shown on the card. You are confused and also worried about the files present in it. Is there a way to fix this issue?

It sure is annoying when SD card shows full, but files are not shown. Here are a few things you can try out to get your problem fixed.

Enable Hidden Files:

A particular virus attaches itself to the autorun command of memory cards. It makes all memory card files hidden, but you can see disk space being used in Windows Explorer. But nothing to worry about, this issue can be fixed. Follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Bring up the Run command, and type cmd. Press Enter.
  • The command prompt window will open. Type the following in command prompt window –

attrib -h -r -s /s /d k:\*.*

replace letter k with the SD card drive letter

Now go back to Windows Explorer, and open SD card; your files will reappear.

Access SD Card Files Directly:

Photos and videos in a camera’s SD card are stored in a folder called DCIM by default. Try to access files directly from this folder. The path for this is:

Here, G represents SD card drive letter.

Connect Camera Directly to Computer:

Try to connect your camera to the computer. This way, your camera acts as the card reader and you would be able to see all the files.

If none of the above methods work out, then the problem could be serious. The SD card might be corrupted. Under such a situation, you have to format the SD card. Now if you haven’t backed up files, then you lose data present in the card after format. Does this mean your SD card is of no value now? Well, no, don’t worry about files present in the card.
